Hadley is doing really good. He is so happy to be home and in his own familiar places. He has been working on some things at home to make him stronger. Randy is quite the instructor when it comes to keeping Hadley going I think he is doing more and more everyday. He is back to some chores and walking without his walker now. He even went hunting with Randy this weekend they drove in the pickup which was something we didn't know he would ever do again. Everything is so major now we take nothing for granted when it comes to Hadley and many other things now, because to have that feeling of not knowing if it will ever happen again is so horrible to feel.  He will hopefully start with a tutor soon to help him with his school work. Sugar Salem has been out for Potato Harvest and when that is over we will get him going with a tutor.

We have been so blessed with the outcome of Hadley's accident. It is so nice to be back to normal. There are of course some things that Hadley is needing help with but he is doing great. I would like to thank everyone for following this blog and praying for Hadley. I will keep in touch as we get more news or as Hadley progresses with things. Stay Positive for him Hadley is definitely staying that way and that is how we want it to stay.

One month and 14 days later and it is time. Hadley is coming home today!! We have been seeing so much improvement with Hadley the last week. On Saturday we did get to go to the Zoo, out to lunch, and then walked through the mall for a little while. On Sunday Hadley got to come home for a little while and visit, but had to be back at 5:00. It was so fun to get a little normal back in our lives. He had a lot of people at the house to visit with and just kinda sit around in the front yard like a lot of times before. This has seemed like forever and we are so grateful for today.

Hadley has to have a little procedure today to take a filter out of his body that was helping with blood clots if he had any while healing. That is happening sometime this moring, after I am sure he will have to stay there for a while to see how he does, and then he will be on his way home.

I am so proud of you Hadley and even though things are not 100% yet we will get there! It is going to take time but we have as much time as we need. I am so grateful for you, you are a great brother-in-law, an awesome Uncle to Crae, and a big part of this family.  We don't know what we would do with out you.

We talked to Hadley on the phone last night, he sounded great!! He told Mike that his therapy went good yesterday and he was feeling pretty good. He also told us that he migh get a Free Day this weekend. Which means he can leave the hospital for a little while and go and do something fun. Mike asked what he was going to do and he said probably go to the zoo. I hope that everything goes smooth for him and we really can go and do that. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Here are some pictures of Hadley doing this therapy sorry it has taken me so long to get them on here.

This is Mike, Hadley, and his Therapist working on squezzing a ball with his legs.

Mike, Hadley, Randy, and MaCrae cheering Hadley on. This was one of the first days he started walking.

Hadley had a good weekend again. He is walking more everyday and working very hard at his Therapy. John and Heather stayed with him on Friday night and Mike and Randy spent Saturday with him. He is doing really well just waiting for the green light to be able to come home!! Still no news on the surgery just waiting. There is definitely one thing we have learned in this process and that is patience it is very hard to just wait, wait, wait, but when it comes right down to it that is all we can do.

We Love You Hadley

Hadley is doing great! He is getting better everyday. His therapy is going good and he is doing new things everyday to help his left side more. The left side is a lot slower than his right but he is working really hard at getting it going.

We are getting closer to his surgery everyday. There has not been a date set but it is always on the back of our minds. I asked how detailed the surgery was and Sheila had said that it is a very rare thing to have and there are not many cases in the United States. What he has is a cluster of nerves in his brain and the doctor is going to have to sort through those nerves and determine if Hadley needs them or not. Which you would think that all of them would have a purpose not sure why some don't. The nerves that Hadley doesn't need will be capped off with something and the other ones will be re-connected or placed where they need to be. We are not sure if all of the work that he has done to get to the place he is at now will have to be redone or not. We are hoping for a miracle in that he will come out of the surgery better or the same that he is now. He has worked so hard to be here!! The littlest things that we take advantage of everyday like talking, eating, scratching our nose or even being able to dress ourselves Hadley has had to work very hard at to be able to do again. We just hope that he can still do this after the surgery. You are always sceptical about surgery or the doctor that you are going too but we have faith that they will help Hadley to be ok and work with him until he is back to normal. I will keep you posted on any further Surgery info when we get it.

110% Hadley, we know you want this as bad as we do !! We all love you!!

I again want to thank everyone for what they have done to help us, donations, food, money and prayers have been so appreciated. The donation will help tremendously with the medical costs. We are so grateful for every penny. It make us really appreciate the area and the people that live among us. I know I speak for everyone in our family when I say this Thank You!!

Tomorrow will be the One month mark for Hadley! We have seen huge improvements the last week in Hadley's progress. Today we had a great visit with Hadley. He joked with Mike all day and teased everyone. He loves to joke and play around and that is what we love and have missed this last month. It is so good to see the old Hadley show through. When we got there he was just starting his physical therapy. We first got Hadley a walker and he tried walking. With a little bit of help from all of us he did great. His left leg doesn't work as easily as his right but it is coming along good. Through out the day Hadley walked over 90 feet. We got done walking and they took him in to pedal on a bike machine, kick a ball and work on moving his left leg in the right movements.

After physical therapy they gave Hadley a shower. When the nurse turned on the water her and Hadley both realized quick that the water was freezing cold. Hadley gave it just a minute and then turned the shower hose onto the nurse for revenge!! Hadley thought it was pretty funny, but I am not sure the nurse thought it was as funny.

Today Hadley decided that he wanted Wendy's instead of the hospital food so Randy went and brought him back a baconator, fries, and a frosty. Hadley loved every minute of the burger and ice cream. He is getting really sick of the hospital food.

Hadley has started to ask when he is ever going to be able to go home. The doctors have told him that when he can walk pretty good on his own that he will be able to go home. He is very excited about this and is working very hard on his walking this week so that he can be closer to coming home. Hadley's attitude is really good I think that it is hard for him to not be able to do the things that use to be so easy for him. He has a great support team behind him from the nurses, doctors, therapist and family he gets plenty of encouragement. We are behind you 100 % Hadley and we love you like crazy keep up the good work and we will be walking out of the Hospital before long.

We Love You

Good things are happening, Hadley is doing great today. He is still doing a lot of therapy- physical, occupational, and speech are the therapies he is doing. I asked Sheila how he was doing with all of that and she said that he does great. She said he has started to tell the nurse that he is tired after a while, but hangs in there until the end.

She also said that yesterday he was telling Randy and Sheila to "be quiet" and to "shut-up" when he was getting irritated. Randy and Hadley have a relationship that is a lot of teasing each other most of the time so of course now that Hadley is getting back to normal Randy doesn't stop with the teasing he lets him have it. So Hadley lets him know when he has had enough. I think that some people would be offended by "shut up" but to us that means that Hadley is getting closer and closer to being himself again. It is all in fun with the Mortimer family everyone has to take there turn being the brunt of the joke and Hadley seems to be that more than anyone else, must be because he is the little brother.

We didn't make it down to see Hadley yet but hopefully soon, I somehow wish that everything else in life would be put on hold so we could spend more time where we really wanted to be. Which for us is down with Hadley, but for some reason life just won't do that. I promise that when I get down there I will take pictures and update the blog. Thank you for following this and for praying for Hadley it means the world to us as a family.

New things everyday! Hadley is doing so well. I got to talk to him on the phone today, I was telling him about our night last night and telling him that we will be down to see him tomorrow after work. When I told him that he said "OK" plain as he would have before his accident I also told him that I loved him and he was trying to say that back as well!! It is wonderful to hear him trying to talk. He is definitely doing well!
I know that deep down everyone is still worrying about the surgery that Hadley will have to go down to Utah for. I don't have much information about that yet but will let you know when we get it what exactly will be done and when they will be doing it. We are just hoping that Hadley keeps making progress and his brain will be healthy enough to do the surgery and stay healthy after the surgery. I guess that blessings come in disguise sometimes. We are not grateful that Hadley was hurt so bad in this accident, but we are grateful that we know now that he had this spot on his brain and that they can operate on it. It will be wonderful when all of this is over with and we can take Hadley home. It is just going to take a while until we reach that point  we are grateful for every minute that we have had and will have with Hadley. We love you Buddy!

I will get more pictures taken of Hadley to update the blog when we go to visit tomorrow. He looks so good! A friend of his at school has said that a group of them from school would like to go down and visit. I am so excited for that to happen I think that it would really help Hadley to see his friends and know that they are thinking about him.

We have had a great weekend! Both of our fundraisers went so well! I want to thank everyone who helped us out with those. Parker's Sand and Gravel was great to donate there shop and time for the garage sale. Everyone at the Hillman horse sale helped out and the day ran so good there as well.

The best part of our weekend was after the horse sale we all went over to see Hadley. We all tromped through the hospital with spurs and cowboy hats on and when we got to Hadley's door and started to go in Hadley lit up with the biggest smile on his face. It was so wonderful to see him do that and be so happy. We all stayed for a while and talked and joked with Hadley. He did get 20 dollars from Dave. Everyone has a little game going on with Hadley if he can reach far enough to grab the money he gets to keep it, when this is all said and done Hadley will be rich and everyone else is going to be broke.

Today Hadley has made a huge step and has actually said some words. He told Randy to stop when Randy was teasing him and poking him and also said pears. This is so great for us to know that Hadley can talk and wants to talk. It just comes to show that hard work and determination does pay off. I think that Hadley is definitely wanting to do everything but just needs a little help learning how to control his brain and his body over again.

We truly appreciate everything that everyone has done to help us. The garage sale was amazing the donations and all the people that helped set up, sell everything and then come back and pack everything up that didn't sell was so wonderful.

Thanks Again,
Kimorie

Everyday there is something new that Hadley does. He is doing really well with his therapy. His speech therapist says he is doing great. They have done some activities to see how well he can read and Hadley is doing wonderful with those. They will bring in flashcards and objects for Hadley to look at, and she will have him read the word and then point or look at the object that the word says. Hadley does it and he can read!! The regular therapy that do for Hadley on his movement he is making progress as well. He can know stand up a little better and even kick his feet out. Hadley still hasn't been able to talk but does make some noises to try to tell us what he needs, likes or doesn't like. Everything is baby steps but there are definately good things happening!!

Making Progress slowly but surely!! Hadley has been doing great the past few days. He is still doing good with his therapy and trying his best. Everyday he does a little better with old things or can do the new things they want him to do. Keep it up Hadley!

Yesterday Dr. Allan was in seeing Hadley and held up a 20 dollar bill. He told Hadley that if he could reach it he could have it. Hadley was trying so hard to get the money but couldn't quite reach it.  I think having a doctor that does things like that and tries to be your friend is really helpful for Hadley and for us. When they try to have some fun and be positive it puts a whole other perspective on things and you focus more on the positive instead of the negative. I called down to talk to Sheila yesterday and she just started laughing while I was on the phone with her. She said that Randy was poking at Hadley, which they are always picking on each other, and Hadley tried to hit Randy back!! Which  means to our family he is getting closer and closer to being back to himself. Before Hadley's accident I would always tease Mike that he better not mess with Hadley because he is pretty close to being able to whip him. And I hope that in not to long I will be saying that same thing again!

I am so proud of Hadley and the progress he is making everyday!
We Love you Hadley!!

Sorry it has taken me so long to update today! Hadley is having a good day today, I just talked to Sheila she said that he had therapy and did really well. He is starting to work with the therapist and do some of the things on his own. Sheila said that today he was helping out with his legs more than he has been. They still haven't moved him up to the 6th floor (Therapy Floor) yet but keep telling us he will go soon. He was resting when I called but I did get to talk to him on speaker phone and they said that he was smiling at the phone while I was talking to him. I will update again soon.

I want to remind everyone that this weekend on Saturday there will be a Garage Sale Fundraiser in St. Anthony at Parkers Sand and Gravel that starts at 9:00 a.m. If anyone is interested in taking things to the Garage Sale you can contact Jamie at 709-3993. Also there will be a Benefit Auction in Idaho Falls, at the Idaho Falls Livestock Sale Yard starting at 1:00. We have been involved with the Hillman/Lynn Production Sale for a long time now and they have been kind enough to do a Benefit for Hadley that day as well as the regular Horse Sale.

Monday, August 23, 2010

Hadley is doing so well! He had a good weekend and is making progress everyday. They have started more therapy the last few days and he has even got to go outside!! They are going to move him to a different floor today, he will be there for a few days and then he will be moved to a therapy floor. That floor will be more involved with all kinds of therapy to help him. This weekend was un-eventful one in the way that nothing changed with how Hadley is doing overall. But was also a great weekend in the way that everyday he does something new or makes a step toward showing improvement in some way.

I called down to see how Hadley was doing of Friday and to let them know we would be there after work and Sheila said they were outside sitting with Hadley getting some fresh air. Hadley's niece and nephew Sidnee and Dylan were there visiting and they were all taking about Dylan riding on Hadley like a bull rider would a bull and how he would buck Dylan off of him. Hadley was listening and started to laugh a little and smile. They were all so excited and could barely hold back the tears. Hadley does a little more each day. He doesn't talk yet but when you talk to him he looks at you like he knows exactly what you are talking about.

Friday night we had a visit from Jim and Kelly Stoddard whose son Stetson was also injured in a horse accident a few years ago. I think that it really helped Randy and Sheila to talk to someone that has been through all of this and has an idea of how they are feeling. They gave us some good advice and positive news on how they thought Hadley looked and how he was doing. I know that it helped Sheila to have that comfort from another mother that has gone through the same with her child. I want to tell Jim and Kelly thank you for being there for us we really needed the encouragement that you gave us.

I am sure this week will be a good week for Hadley! He will get to meet new nurses, be in a different area in the hospital and start more therapy. We are all here for you Hadley we know that you have the determination to get where you want to be. It is going to be hard work and tiresome days but we will help you however we can.

We don't have the best of news, but we don't have the worst of news either. The doctor has been in today and explained the situation that Hadley is in. The spot on Hadley's brain that he was born with the doctors are concerned with. They say that it has a 1 in 10 chance of hemorrhaging, so they plan on watching it really closely. In the meantime they are still going to do the therapy, and give his brain a little more time to heal. They are wanting to do this for 30 days and when that 30 days are up they will send Hadley to Utah for surgery on that part of his brain. We want Hadley to get the rest that he needs and hopefully his brain will heal sooner so they can get that spot fixed and we can get past that stage and on to the healing stage.

We are now on day 13 and trust me it feels like months. This makes us all take a step back in life and really think about what is important. I know it has opened my eyes to just what my priorities are some I need to change and some I will never change. I has also opened my eyes to the people that care about Hadley and our family. They have been wonderful and so helpful. It is nice to know that people really sincerely care about us and I want to Thank all of you for the things that you have done.

Kimorie

These are after the ventilator and tubes were removed. The little tube in his nose is a feeding tube and everything else is gone. I am sure he is much more comfortable with all of that off of him.
I am going to explain the monkey so Hadley isn't upset with me when he wakes up. One of the nurses had asked us the other day why a 14 year old boy has a funny looking monkey? She wasn't quite sure if that was his favorite stuffed animal or what. The reason for it is this past Christmas Hadley got that monkey for his neice MaCrae who will be two in Ocotber. I told her she could pick one of her stuffed animals out to take so Hadley has someone to sleep and snuggle with at night and of course she chose the monkey.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

I think the last few days could be summed up as "Emotional Roller coaster". I think all of us have felt every emotion there is to feel, one minute we are so happy and positive that everything is going to be ok and the next we are so scared and lost that we don't know what to do or say. Hadley is making progress in some areas and staying the same in some.
We all went down to the hospital last night to be with Randy and Sheila. They had gotten the MRI results and they weren't the best news. The results show that he still has spots on his brain that have not healed yet. The doctor has been very straight forward with us through this whole process (which has its good and its bad at times) he was explaining that now we will just have to wait things out and see if Hadley can wake up but there is also a possibility that he may not. I don't even know how to explain this feeling of being so helpless and so scared not knowing what the next thing to happen is. Mike and I got to the hospital and went to see Hadley. When we first got there Hadley wasn't doing much at all just resting. We had decided to go for a while and come back.  Mike made it about an hour and then decided to go back up. I think he was gone for maybe 15 minutes and then called to tell us to come up to the room Hadley's eyes were open!! We rushed up to the room and sure enough his eyes were open, all I could do is cry,  I had gone from being so disappointed to having so much lifted off my chest I couldn't control the tears. We all gathered around his bed and talked to him and held his hand. About that time John and Heather made it to the hospital. John came in and knelt down by Hadley's bed to help Hadley see him better.  I don't even know what John said to Hadley but Hadley smiled at John it wasn't a big smile but it was definitely a smile!! I think at that point the entire room could breathe a little easier, we all were so relieved. Right after that it was time for shift change so of course they made us leave for a few hours. We all went back to the camper and just laughed and joked and told stories about Hadley. We all know deep down that this is going to be one of the biggest challenges of our life's and I think after going through this we know as a family that we need each other and that together we can and we will get through this. The challenges are going to be tough for us but they will be tougher for Hadley and we can do it! I want my family to know that I love each and every one of them and we have each other to get through this with.

Today they are going to try to wake Hadley up more! They say that sometimes if you give a patient Ritalin that has a brain injury that it will help get the hormones in the brain going and can help wake them up. They have also talked about maybe moving him to a different floor which will help him more with therapy. All the signs show that Hadley is trying to wake up, he squeezes our hands and trys to find us with his eyes. The hard part about a brain injury is that they can't just tell us that in 3 days he is going to wake up and then have a week of therapy, and go home and be the same kid he was before the accident. No one knows exactly how the brain works. Hadley just needs time and time is what we will give him.

Of course we are hoping for a miracle in all of this, we have seen a few already. Our miracle might not come as soon as we want it to, or just what we want it to be but we just need the faith to get through this to find when and what our miracle is.

Monday, August 16, 2010

Things are looking up today for Hadley overall. They are taking him off of the sedation so he can wake up more, but the tubes that are still in his throat are really irritating him. Randy says it is pretty tuff watching him struggle with the tubes while he is trying to cough,  he is trying to comfort Hadley to make it a little easier on him.

They are telling us that the ventilator will come off hopefully tomorrow and he will be able to wake up more. Sorry there is not much news today, but every little thing Hadley does is a miracle and we keep wishing for a miracle everyday. We know its going to be a long and hard process but we have to be positive not only for us but for Hadley!

Sunday, August 15, 2010

Yesterday marked one week for Hadley. And thankfully we have seen some good things happen. His tubes were taken out of his head that measure the pressure. Hadley's level of pressure has been down to the levels they need to be, and there also hasn't been any fluid draining for 48 hours. They are keeping Hadley on the ventilator until his Pneumonia is completely gone. The nurse said that the pneumonia is looking a little better everyday.

When they took out the tubes Hadley finally got his wish of having his head shaved and really looks pretty good with no hair.

It is so comforting to be able to talk to Hadley and see some kind of reaction. Mike was asking him to blink his eyes or squeeze his hand if he could hear him, and almost every time there is some kind of movement. He had a lot of visitors yesterday which meant a lot of stimulation and Hadley did well with that.

These pictures were taken before Hadley's tubes were taken out.

We have taken our camper down for people to stay in. It makes it a lot easier for everyone to have a place to go to sleep, eat, or just relax.Yesterday when we were all sitting by the camper we met this wonderful man who was staying next to us. Mike and Sheila started talking to him and found out that he was actually the pilot who flew Hadley out the day he was hurt. We decided to take a picture to show Hadley that this is one person out of many that have helped him along the way. We are so grateful for this person and all the people that have helped us along the way so far.

We have seen good things happen to Hadley this weekend and we are hoping that he keeps progressing. We know he can do it and I am sure that he knows he can too.
Keep it up Had!!

Friday, August 13, 2010

Last night was a great night Mike and I went to see Hadley! On our way down to the Hospital they called to let us know that the Neuro-Surgeon had been in to see Hadley and was asking him a few things. He had asked Hadley to hold up his thumb and Hadley did it!! He also asked him to hold up two fingers and Hadley was trying to hold up his index finger! We were so relieved to hear this new and couldn't wait to get down there to see him. He looked good and his levels were staying down where they needed to be. The nurse explained everything to us and let us know what they are wanting to see. The nurses have been wonderful and very helpful to answer any questions or just to explain what they are doing. They are wanting the levels to stay down and slowly take the sedation drug off to see how Hadley will react. When we were there he was moving his arms and legs quite a bit, and he even yawned a few times. The nurse said that when he starts to show signs of being irriatated with the tubes and things in his throat that she will turn the sedation back up and let him rest. They will keep repeating this process over and over to see how he reacts. The nurse told us that she thought Hadley looked better last night then he did the night before which was very comforting.

Today Sheila called to let us know how the night went and how her visit this morning was. We can go and see Hadley anytime except 6:30-8:30 morning and night this is the time when they are doing all the paper work and when there shift change is. Sheila was in today before shift change and was letting Hadley know that she was going to let him rest for a while and she was going to go and get cleaned up. Before she left Hadley squoze her hand and moved his finger a little bit. He even reached his other hand over to like he was wanting to grab on to her. We are so excited and hope that he will keep moving forward, the little steps help toward the big steps and we know he can do it we just have to keep cheering for him and be there to support him. Keep up the good work Had we love you!

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Today is a tuff day for the family, Hadley still has the bleeding on his brain. The doctors want to keep him as quiet as possible and let him rest. We would love to go in and talk to or touch Hadley but right now what he needs is rest. The bleeding is happening in the old brain injury and doctors are watching it really close to make sure it doesn't cause an anurisum. They want to try not to do a surgery unless they absoulutly have to. We have a very close family and wonderful friends to help us get through this, you don't know how much the little things help and encourage us eveyday!

If you have any questions you can call 313-2351(Kimorie) or 317-7705(Tiffany Hillman).

We would like to say Thank You to the Hillman family for doing this for us it is greatly appreciated.

Also the 28th in St.Anthony there will be a Garage Sale if anyone would like to donate anything or would like to check out what they will be selling. If you have any questins you can call Jamie at 709-3993.

There has been an account set up at the Bank of Commerce under Hadley's name as well.
Hadley's CT Scan results have came back now. It is looking like there is still some bleeding and swelling on his brain. They also discovered an old brain injury we didn't know he had, that has now started to bleed as well. The good news that we have is the pressure has come down.  The doctors are saying that we just need to let him rest and give it more time. Hadley is surrounded by people that love him and want him to get better, we all have to be positive and keep praying that soon he will.

Thank you everyone for the support!
Kimorie
Hadley is showing signs of improvement today!! He had a better night last night and has starting breathing a little on his own. The doctors have taken him off of the paralyzing drug that he was on as well. Today he is going in for another CT Scan and we are crossing our fingers that everything looks good.

We are working on setting up a few things around the area such as benifit auctions, concerts, and donations spots.  I will keep you posted on that when we get them all put together.

Hadley was injured on Saturday August 7th, while riding horses with his family and friends. Hadley is now in EIRMC with severe head trauma. What the doctors are telling us is we need to wait and see what happens with the swelling on his brain. When the swelling starts to go down we will have more information on what the next steps will be.

Hadley is a very strong and healthy young man who is trying his best to get better, we know that it is going to be a long road to recovery and we will get through it as a family, and help Hadley the best that we can.

As a family we are so grateful for all the love and support we have received the past few days. The calls, gifts and prayers are definately appreciated. Thank you again!

I will try to keep the blog updated with any new news on Hadley's recovery as we get it but please keep praying and keep Hadley in your hearts.

I love you Hadley!
Kimorie

There has been an account set up at the Bank of Commerce under Hadley's name if anyone would like to donate to the family to help with expenses.
